Myx Sail
Initiated as a collaboration with Arup Engineers in Berlin headed by Dr. Ing Jan Wurm, a deeper research into Mycelium based composites was funded by The Fortmann Stiftung(DE) and the Danish Arts Foundation and developed through a period of 2 years from 2019- 2020. The project was finalized as a Mycelium Sail exhibited at the Danish Design Museum from 2022-2024 as a part of the Future is present Exhibition. The sail is comprised of 4 x 6 panels of 50x100 cm in a 5cm thickness. The panels are placed as a ceiling structure and interacts with the exhibition space as a noise cancelling area utilizing the absorbency of the mycelium composite structure. The actual panel is a sandwich layer construction using wood wool as absorbent layer placed on a backing of jute woven net and hemp non woven matts structure. The acoustic and absorbency test secured by Arup Berlin and Technical University Berlin.
